Today in class I presented the 3 mock up images I had created for Green Villages crafts. After making these last night and working with them today I've decided it's time to move on to prototype #2. They proved to be very dependant on clear, council'esque communication and left very little room for experimental design and art, so my next prototype to an exploration of these ideas. Details of it in the next post!
The images were a great place to start and prototype #2 will be in response to what I do and don't love about them. Ideally I'll be prototyping for 3 more weeks, after which the ideas and semi complete projects will be pointing in 1 (already underway) direction. Feedback on the images today included;
- Examine how much 'looseness' you can get away with. This encourages me to get into more (as I said) experimental design and art, and linking the project back to a passion project, which has roots in City of Sydney ideas but takes it somewhere individual.
- In my brief I need to focus on the problems with the existing context (City of Sydney, the inner west, and the green movement) and not promise any solutions, especially because this project is still so open ended. These no-definition projects need to be hinted at, but not promised, in a way that walks a fine line between clearly communicating a great project, and knowing I'm still shaping what will be a crazy piece of work.
- I need to refine my visual language quickly, as I'll work with it on all the prototypes and it will consistently grow throughout. So much so that a spankin' well designed, green related, visual language is likely to be a big part of my final hand in.
GOALS FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS
By friday submit Prototype #2 to this blog.
Submit proposal document to Zoe by Sunday. Don't over think this. Design it semi-nicely.
Before class next week have prototype #3 underway, and mock ups and ideas for prototype #2 explored.
For Sundays hand in and next week have a greater refined visual language; choose 2 fonts, plan some letters of my own font, choose colours (specify as pantones even), decide on an illustration style (and do 1 drawing in it), and make a mood board of identity images all generated by me.
